The Whaley House

The Whaley House is reported to be one of the most haunted houses in the United States, so naturally on my summer break from teaching I took a day trip from my home in Southern California to San Diego for this specific purpose. This was in June of 2022. I did not know about traveling with points yet, so I did not make a trip out of it. We drove there and drove straight back home in the same day.

We began the trip by visiting Seal Beach in La Jolla. Standing on the cliff’s edge and staring out onto the breathtaking view of the beach is an experience all on its own. It really showcases the beauty of San Diego. Taking the small walk down to see the seals is a really fun experience for the kids.

Next, we went to Heritage County Park located close to Old Town San Diego. This place features Victorian homes that wealthy families would have owned in the 1880’s-1890’s. You can walk through what looks like a small Victorian neighborhood at no cost to you. It was a very beautiful sight and is highly recommended.

We then went to Old Town San Diego while we waited for our tour time for the Whaley House. We walked to El Campo Santo Cemetery. El Campo Santo Cemetery was a big cemetery in its heyday. As the city expanded however, space in the town was needed for roads. They ended up paving over many gravesites. What’s left of the cemetery today houses real grave sites and the streets you drive on to get there hold many graves beneath it. We walked there and I used a ghost hunter app on my phone. Nothing paranormal detected. We did get words that came through on the app but I’m sure it was just the app that was created to give those words.

It was finally time for the tour of the Whaley House. We were told to take as many pictures as we wanted in live mode on our phones so you could see if anything moved in the pictures. I listened and took an endless amount of pictures during the tour. With my eyes I saw nothing. On our way home, my friend was driving so I dedicated my time to looking through all of my pictures just like I see them do on ghost hunting television shows. I was shocked to see that in a couple of the live photos I saw an orb moving through it. I remembered from the ghost shows they say to zoom in on the orbs and sometimes you’ll be able to see faces. I zoomed in and was shocked to see that staring at me in the orb was the face of Mrs. Whaley, pictured below.

The picture to the right is a portrait of Mrs. Whaley hanging in the home.

I kept going through the pictures and found another mist in a picture. I zoomed in and was even more shocked to see the face of the same woman. In the second image below you can see her profile and easily distinguish her hair, nose, eyes, lips, and chin. the face is close to the top of image.

You can see the white blurs believed to be ghost orbs
Look toward the top of the white blur to see Mrs. Whaley’s profile

These two separate pictures showing the same woman that match the picture hanging in the home is my official proof to myself that ghosts exist. Now I want to travel the U.S. with points and miles to see what other paranormal experiences I can have. Join me on my journey.

Make your own journey to beautiful San Diego and visit the haunted Whaley House. Perhaps you’ll capture your very own ghost picture.
