Hyatt Place Orlando/Lake Buena Vista

When it comes time to book a hotel for my family’s vacations I always consider 1) location 2) cost 3) perks. This Hyatt met all 3 of my requirements and so I booked it.

Let’s examine this hotel through the lens of my three requirements.

Location

Whenever I look for a hotel for a vacation, I always look at the map view instead of the list view because I want to ensure that I am getting a hotel in my desired area. When I did this, I saw that the Hyatt Place Orlando/Lake Buena Vista was one of the two Hyatt properties closest to Disney parks.

Cost

This brings me to the next thing I consider, cost. Hyatt Place Orlando/Lake Buena Vista and the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort were the two nearest properties to the Disney parks, but the Hyatt Place was averaging 8,000 points per night, while the Hyatt Regency was averaging 18,000 points. Since I knew we had a quick trip where I only needed to book three nights, I thought it would be best to book the one that was cheaper. Our whole purpose of going on this trip was to visit 2 out of the 4 Disney parks. My husband has to save his PTO days for all of the other trips we have booked for 2024, so we weren’t going to be lounging around the hotel. This was another reason I decided to book the cheaper Hyatt Place. There’s no use in staying at the nicer, more expensive resort when we would be at the parks all day and only using the hotel to sleep in.

Perks

The last consideration that officially made me choose the Hyatt Place was the perks the hotel gave my family. Both Hyatt hotels would have given me free waters due to my status of Discoverist with Hyatt. Both Hotels offered free shuttle service to and from the parks. The Hyatt Place however, offered free complimentary daily breakfast for all 6 of us. As I’m sure you already know, breakfast for 6 people every day can become quite costly. So being given 3 days worth of breakfast for 6 people for free was a huge money saver and I could not pass that up.

Booking the Hyatt Place Orlando/Lake Buena Vista

As a teacher, I have the advantage of knowing exactly when next year I can book a vacation for my family. I knew I wanted to take my kids on a Disney World vacation during our Spring Break of 2024. I booked this hotel in February of 2023. Hyatt hotels open their calendars 13 months in advance. If you want to book a hotel on points in a highly desired area like this one, you’ll have to stalk the Hyatt page 13 months in advance in order to ensure you get a room.

I did just that and ended up getting the standard room that comes with 2 queen beds and a sofa sleeper. This room cost us 27,000 points total. Two nights were 9,500 points and one was 8,000 points. I used Chase points and transferred them to Hyatt in order to book this room.

Card I Opened to Get these Points

I opened a Chase Ink Business Unlimited Credit Card to get these points. The welcome bonus for this card was 75,000 points. This welcome bonus gave me more than enough points for my hotel stay.

Previously I had also opened the Chase Sapphire Preferred card for a welcome bonus of 60,000 points. Those points are long gone, but I mention it because this card is needed to pool together Chase points from the Ink card mentioned. Once pooled together you can transfer your Chase points to Hyatt. Without the Sapphire Preferred card, you wont be able to transfer points to Hyatt.

Hotel Review

I cannot stress how happy I was with this hotel stay. I HIGHLY recommend staying in this hotel. It was clean, spacious, and had a friendly and helpful staff.

The room was a very clean and spacious room. It’s 424 square feet and has 2 queen beds and a sofa bed sleeper. It is by no means a fancy establishment, but it was nice and gave us exactly what we needed. The 6 of us did not feel cramped in there. We slept 2 to a bed and fit just fine. The picture below is with all 6 of us in the room. As you can see, we were not cramped and had plenty of room to move around.

There’s only one pool in the hotel and it was a decent sized pool. The hot tub was pretty big and could host a few families. Unfortunately, we never got to enjoy the pool area because we were at the parks the whole day and by the time we got back to the hotel, the pool area was closed. It closes at 10 pm.

Breakfast was my favorite part of the hotel because it was good and because it saved us so much money! The food was great. They offered a wide variety of food: eggs, sausage, bacon, French toast, biscuits, tortillas, yogurt, cereal, toast, bagels, juices, different types of milk, whole fruit, cut up fruit, coffee, tea, and condiments.

My kids and I ate as much as our hearts desired and we even took extras as snacks at the parks. By “we” I mean me, since moms have to do everything for their family. Insert eye roll here. From the free breakfast I took bread, peanut butter, and jelly to make peanut butter sandwiches to eat as snacks at the park.

I also took whole fruit as snacks for my kids at the parks. I got the idea from other people to also utilize the to go coffee cups for other snacks to have at the parks, such as fruit cups and cereal snacks.

No one was judging me making my sandwiches or making my to go cups because the eating area in the hotel was quite big. On the last day I even got to eat my breakfast alone, without children or a husband to bother me because of how big the area was. I told my daughter where I was going to be and to come meet me. After I finished my cereal I realized they still hadn’t come. I went to go find them and they were all happily eating without me. She said, “I couldn’t find you so I just sat here.” This story is a testament to how big the eating area is.

The picture below is just one section where families can enjoy their breakfast. There’s plenty of space for many families. You wont be fighting people for space to eat in the morning.

Staying at this hotel was a huge point saver AND a huge money saver. Breakfast for 6 people for 3 days and snacks for 2 days at the parks easily saved us over $300 in food.
